Thatcham Church

Thatcham Church in Berkshire has several churches for diverse religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is common for a town to have more than one church and Thatcham is no exception.

Unfortunately church attendance has been tumbling for the last fifty years in the UK, with 15% of the populace presiding at least once every month, notwithstanding Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the inhabitants.

We think the cause for the decline is in simple terms that people don't believe in God any more, with wars raging across the planet and the economy in a bad way it is easy to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Thatcham community then it's actually extraordinary numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Thatcham to be a wonderful location to be alive, where people get along, they help each other in times of hardship and people offer to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Thatcham church and make a request change, you want to assist, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. This country is on its knees because hardly anybody wishes to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get as one and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as neighborhood schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of inhabitants such as the lonely, feeble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, loads of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien recently resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men schooling to be priests, taking into consideration his anti-homosexual language in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet place to be - a good place to ruminate on the things that are happening in your life at the present time.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that is a game that can keep children pleased for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the cemetery.
