Yate Church

Yate Church in Avon has several churches for different religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is regular for a town to have more than one church and Yate is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been tumbling for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the populace attending at least once per month, notwithstanding Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the population.

We think the grounds for the decline is in basic terms that people do not have faith in God any more, with violence raging across the planet and the wealth of the nation in a bad way it is easy to appreciate peoples lack of faith. In our estimation the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the core values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you ruminate on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Yate community then it's really shocking figures are going down. Surely we all want our Yate to be a good spot to dwell, where inhabitants get along, they assist one another in times of need and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Yate church and demand change, you want to help, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your district chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because nobody desires to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get organized and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, poor and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a good light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light recently with the pope resigning, the first pope in more than 600 years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, countless people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times resigned after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, taking into account his anti-gay rhetoric in the past, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very peaceful position to be - a good spot to reflect on the things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as children was to find the oldest memorial..i.e. the earliest date, that is a game that can keep kids amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they walk/run round the graveyard.
