Chew Magna Church

Chew Magna Church in Avon has many churches for assorted religious faiths such as Anglican, Baptist and Methodist. It is conventional for a town to have more than one church and Chew Magna is no exception.

Sadly church attendance has been sinking for the last 50 years in the United Kingdom, with 15% of the population attending at least once every month, nevertheless Atheists and Agnostics are still in a minority, representing 33% of the population.

We think the reason for the decline is in simple terms that people don't believe in God any more, with wars raging across the planet and the economy in a bad way it's straightforward to comprehend peoples lack of faith. In our opinion the Church needs to be re-branded, if you think of the staple values of Church such as togetherness, family, marriage and community leaving aside God for a second! If you think on all the good things that Churches stand for in our Chew Magna community then it is in reality astounding numbers are going down. Surely we all want our Chew Magna to be a wonderful location to live, where inhabitants get along, they help each other in times of hardship and people give to each other without asking anything back in return. So what we are asking is for you to go along to your Chew Magna church and plea for change, you want to help, and you think it's only right and proper that the rest of your neighborhood chip in and help with things. The UK is on its knees because nobody wishes to work to a better goal...it is time for change...come on people..let us get together and make this happen

Churches in the past and future have worked together with other organisations such as community schools, groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts as well as being prominent in assisting other groups of people such as the lonely, humble and abused. The church is seen as doing good causes which sees them in a nice light.

Churches have been seen in a dim light of late with the pope resigning, the first pope to do so in more than six hundred years, and nobody was entirely sure of the reason why, loads of people have speculated that it is not just a matter of the pope getting older and not being able to carry out his job to the fullest.

The scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien in recent times deserted after admitting sexually inappropriate moves to young men training to be priests, in view of his anti-homosexual speech-making in bygone times, this was seen as "do as I say not as I do"!

On the lighter side of things churches are seen as a very quiet place to be - a good spot to contemplate on the things that are going on in your life at the present moment.

A game we used to play as kids was to find the oldest headstone..i.e. the earliest date, that's a game that can keep kids amused for a while as well as giving them good exercise as they run/walk round the cemetery.
